Camp Description

Come get your hands dirty learning the technical and mesmerizing technique of throwing clay on the potter's wheel! This class will cover the basics from foundational knowledge of ceramics to more technical methods of working on the wheel. We will begin with fundamental centering skills and work our way up to larger and taller forms that could become pitchers or even sculptural vessels! We will develop interesting surfaces through slip trailing, carving, sgraffito, and bright glazes. To conclude our camp, we will build and fire artworks in a traditional style pit firing.

About the Instructor

Hanna has been teaching ceramics for almost 20 years and loves every moment. She earned her Bachelors of Fine Arts from James Madison University, Masters of Science in Curriculum and Instruction from Portland State University, and Masters of Fine Arts from East Tennessee State University. Hanna currently leads the Ceramics and Sculpture program at Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia. She enjoys working with people of all ages and backgrounds, encouraging each person to grow creatively!

A few important specifics

• Age: Your child's age must fall within the age range specified for the workshop before it begins. If your child is within a month of the cutoff date and you feel they would be able to fit in with the group, you may email [email protected] to request special consideration.

• Medical Information: If your child has accessibility needs, allergies, food sensitivities, etc. you must indicate this in the “Medical Information” section and also speak to the instructor at the beginning of the camp. 

• Cancellation Policy: If you cancel anytime up to 6 weeks before the beginning of a camp or workshop, you will receive a refund minus the $25 nonrefundable processing fee. If you cancel less than 6 weeks before the beginning of a camp or workshop, refunds are not available.
