Handbuilding Pottery and Candlemaking

Camp Description

In this class, we will make pottery using pinch, coil, and slab methods. Students will learn to make various forms such as mugs, bowls, vases, candleholders, and more. We will experiment with texture by using tools and pressing flowers and leaves into clay slabs. On the last day of class, while our pieces are firing, we will hand-dip beeswax candles to go along with our ceramic candleholders!

About the Instructor

Em Trentham is a multidisciplinary artist working with ceramics and beeswax. She uses handbuilding techniques to create altars, candleholders, and everyday wares. Em hand-dips beeswax candles using a traditional method that involves focused repetition to craft tapered candles.

A few important specifics

• Age: Your child's age must fall within the age range specified for the workshop before it begins. If your child is within a month of the cutoff date and you feel they would be able to fit in with the group, you may email [email protected] to request special consideration.

• Medical Information: If your child has accessibility needs, allergies, food sensitivities, etc. you must indicate this in the “Medical Information” section and also speak to the instructor at the beginning of the camp.

• Cancellation Policy: If you cancel anytime up to 6 weeks before the beginning of a camp or workshop, you will receive a refund minus the $25 nonrefundable processing fee. If you cancel less than 6 weeks before the beginning of a camp or workshop, refunds are not available.
